Thermostats & Radiator Caps

The function of your vehicles thermostat is to regulate the temperature of the engine so that it is maintained near the optimum operating temperature.

The thermostat works by switching heating and cooling systems on and off to maintain the optimum temperature.

Before removing any radiator filler cap, please ensure that the engine is cool and that the coolant fluid is not warm or under any pressure. Because of the heat the cooling system is trying to expell, the system operates under high pressure. Removing the cap while the system is hot is extremely damgerous and should never be attempted.
